IM Concepts is committed to evidence based practice in all services. This is achieved through constant literature review, professional memberships, professional development activities and our own innovative research programs including;

  • The relationship between work-related psychosocial factors and chronic pain.

  • 'RESTORE' program outcomes.

  • Better Outcomes in Mental Health Health Care Initiative.

The relationship between work-related psychosocial factors and chronic pain.

In completing her Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling, Louise Bilato researched the relationship between work-related psychosocial factors and chronic pain. The results have delivered the 'RESTORE' program invaluable clues to critical interventions that empower individuals to achieve work ability, despite persistent pain.
Louise was awarded a 2005 Churchill Fellowship to further this research and visited multi-disciplinary pain management facilities in New Zealand and Canada.

'
The effectiveness of the 'RESTORE' Pain Program is evaluated by both qualitative and quantitative results. Outcome data is maintained for all participants through pre-program and post-program measures.
Outcome Measures include but are not exclusive to: pain levels, medication usage, work capacity, physical capacity, psychological health, health care usage  and confidence to manage activity despite pain.

Better Outcomes in Mental Health Health Care Initiative

In 2002-2003 Divisions of General Practice around Australia were given an opportunity to access funding via the Commonwealth government's Better Outcomes in Mental Health Care Initiative. Northern Territory Rehabilitation Service (now IM Concepts) and the Top End Division of General Practice successfully implemented one of the first pilot projects titled 'Access to Allied Health Services'.  The pilot project commenced in mid 2002 and ended in mid-2003.  The success of the pilot was nationally recognized and reported at the Australian Psychological Society's national conference in October 2003.
Since that time IM Concepts has had an ongoing Service Agreement with the Top End Division of General Practice to supply group and individual psychological therapy services enabling participants to access appropriate and affordable mental health services.

In collaboration with the Top End Division of General Practice an innovative model of service delivery has been implemented. The service delivery model has concentrated on building partnerships between General Practitioners and allied health practioners as well as emphasizing the role of consumers as active participants in decisions regarding their own mental health.
