Depression and Anxiety

Many of us have had close contact with anxiety and depression, having experienced their effects first hand or through having a close friend or relative who has been diagnosed with depression and/or anxiety.  Research confirms that approximately one million Australians suffer from depression each year, and one in five Australians will experience an episode of depression during their lifetime. 

Symptoms of depression and anxiety can affect all aspects of our lives and makes it difficult to actively participate in normal, day-to-day activities.  Many treatments are used for depression and anxiety and most fall into the two main categories of medications and psychological treatments. 

IM Concepts provides a range of evidence-based treatments to assist people learn more about depression and anxiety.

 

Building Resiliency and Managing Challenges

This cognitive therapy based small group program is designed to facilitate the development of skills to understand the underlying factors contributing to mental health problems including the thinking patterns associated with depressed mood. Evidence-based coaching techniques assist participants to develop strategies to make essential changes, adopt more helpful ways of thinking and regain a sense of control that can help in all aspects of their lives. The program is most effective when undertaken in close collaboration with Treating Practitioners.
Small groups are facilitated by appropriately qualified professionals and comprise 6-8 participants. Each program consists of 8 weekly sessions of 2 hours each.

Costs:  A mental health plan completed by a GP enables eligible participants to access a Medicare rebate.
Participants with private health insurance may be eligible for a rebate from their private health insurance scheme.  All queries in relation to the groups can be directed to our Practice Manager.


"Building Resiliency and Managing Challenges' - Youth Group
This program is designed specifically for youth and is targeting 16 to 22 year olds who have left school and who are in the working age range. The program has a psycho-education focus with emphasis on developing interpersonal skills, emotions management and healthy thinking habits.

"From Surviving to Thriving" - Level 2
Whilst the Building Resiliency and Managing Challenges group programs introduce participants to a range of strategies to challenge unhelpful thinking and manage moods the Stage 2 program is much more a guided discovery focusing on processes, exploring the role of values, expectations and underlying beliefs in our choices and decision making.   The aim of the group program is to enhance insights and understanding.

Groups are facilitated by experienced and appropriately qualified professionals, and comprise 6-8 participants. Each program consists of 6 fortnightly sessions of 2 hours each.
